What is the difference between a turbocharger and a supercharger?

 

Turbocharger:


As we know, a turbocharger is a turbo-driven forced induction device used to generate more power from an engine of a given size. A turbocharged engine can be more powerful and efficient than a naturally aspirated engine because the turbine puts more air and correspondingly more fuel into the combustion chamber than atmospheric pressure alone. On the other hand, turbochargers are commonly used in truck, car, train, airplane and construction equipment engines. Turbines are commonly used with Otto cycle and diesel cycle internal combustion engines. They are also found in automotive fuel cells.

 

Difference Between Turbo and Supercharger:

  

Compared to a supercharger, a turbocharger has a longer response time. The reason is that the exhaust needs to build up before the engine can get more power. However, the supercharger provides extra power to the engine as long as it is running. If the belt is moving, the power increases and the belt moves whenever the engine is on.

  

Both turbochargers and superchargers are add-ons to a car's engine that increase power by increasing air pressure. By forcing more air into each combustion cycle, the resulting combustion is more powerful, thus making the engine more powerful due to the increased force emitted by each piston.

  

The main difference between a turbocharger and a supercharger is where the air comes from. The turbocharger is connected to the exhaust system. It uses exhaust gas to spin a fan that puts air into the cylinders and increases the power of each burn. The supercharger, on the other hand, is belt driven. It uses some of the car's energy to move the belt that draws air into the engine.
