What are the main advantages and disadvantages of complete turbocharger?

The complete turbocharger is actually an air compressor, which increases the intake air volume by compressing air. It uses the inertial impulse of exhaust gas discharged from the engine to push the turbine in the turbine chamber, and the turbine drives the coaxial impeller. The impeller presses the air sent from the air filter pipe to pressurize it into the cylinder. The impeller compresses more air into the cylinder, and the increased pressure and density of the air can burn more fuel, correspondingly increasing the fuel quantity and adjusting the engine speed, the output power of the engine can be increased.

|| There are four main advantages and one disadvantage:

<Improve engine power per liter.  When the engine displacement remains unchanged, the intake density can be increased to allow the engine to inject more fuel, thereby increasing the power of the engine. The power and torque of the engine with a complete turbocharger should be increased by 20% to 30%. On the contrary, under the same power output requirements, the cylinder diameter of the engine can be reduced, and the volume and weight of the engine can be reduced.

<Improve engine emissions.  By improving the combustion efficiency of the engine, the emission of harmful components such as particulate matter and nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas of the engine can be reduced. It is an indispensable configuration for diesel engines to meet Euro II emission standards.

<Provides the function of plateau compensation.  In some high-altitude areas, the higher the altitude, the thinner the air, and the engine with a complete turbocharger can overcome the power drop of the engine caused by the thin air at the plateau.

<Improve fuel economy and reduce fuel consumption.  Because the engine with complete turbocharger has better combustion performance, it can save fuel by 3%-5%. And it has high reliability and good matching characteristics, high transient response characteristics.

Disadvantage:

<Lag. Because the inertia of the impeller is slow to respond to the sudden change in the throttle, that is to say, there is a time difference between when you put your foot on the accelerator to increase the power, and when the impeller turns to push more air into the engine for more power, and this time is not short. The general improved complete turbocharger also at least 2 seconds or so to increase or reduce the engine power output. If you want to accelerate suddenly, you will lose your speed momentarily.
