How should car engine turbochargers be used?

At present, many domestic gasoline engines have applied exhaust gas turbocharger technology. This technology can not only increase power, but also increase torque. However, some problems should be paid attention to when using engines with this structure, otherwise it will cause turbines. Premature damage to the turbocharger.

First, let’s talk about the general structure of the turbocharger. The exhaust gas turbocharger is mainly composed of a pump wheel and a turbine, and of course there are other control elements. The pump wheel and the turbine are connected by a shaft, that is, the rotor. Exhaust gas from the engine drives the pump wheel. The pump wheel drives the turbine to rotate. After the turbine rotates, the intake system is pressurized. The turbocharger is installed on the exhaust side of the engine, so the working temperature of the turbocharger is very high, and the speed of the rotor is very high when the turbocharger is working, which can reach hundreds of thousands of revolutions per minute, such a high speed and temperature As a result, common mechanical needle rollers or ball bearings cannot work for the rotor. Therefore, turbochargers generally use full floating bearings, which are lubricated by engine oil, and coolant is used to cool the turbocharger.

Therefore, for this structural principle, some problems should be paid attention to when using this engine:

1. After the engine is started, run it at idle speed for a while, so that the lubricating oil reaches a certain working temperature and pressure, so as to avoid accelerated wear and even jamming due to the lack of oil in the bearing when the load is suddenly increased.

2. When the vehicle is parked, the turbocharger rotor has a certain inertia, so the engine should not be turned off immediately. It should be idle for a period of time to make the temperature and speed of the turbocharger rotor gradually drop. Immediately turning off the flame will cause the oil to lose pressure, and the rotor will not get lubricated when it rotates by inertia and will be damaged.

3. Frequently check the amount of oil to avoid bearing failure and rotating parts jamming due to lack of oil.

4. Regularly replace the engine oil and engine filter. Because the full-floating bearing has high requirements for lubricating oil, the engine oil specified by the manufacturer should be used.

5. Regularly clean and replace the air filter element. Dirty air filter will increase the air intake resistance and reduce the engine power.

6. Often check the tightness of the intake system, leakage will make dust inhalation turbocharger and engine, damage turbocharger and engine.

7. Due to the high precision of the turbocharger rotor bearing, the working environment requirements for maintenance and installation are very strict, so when the turbocharger fails or is damaged, it should be repaired at the designated maintenance station.
